Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Civil Engineer in Fort Worth, TX, to utilize and expand their civil engineering skills in a hybrid work environment. Responsibilities include designing and analyzing power plants and substations, guiding project teams, and preparing calculations and designs. A BSCE from an ABET-approved program and a PE license or the ability to obtain one are required. Job description

Responsibilities

• Utilize and expand your civil engineering degree and skills in a multi-disciplined team environment.
• Participate in the design, modification, and analysis of power plants, substations, transmission lines, and similar industrial systems.
• Perform civil site development work including preparing calculations, designs, and specifications.
• Coordinate with project managers, client personnel, contractors, suppliers, and permitting agency personnel to ensure complete and timely design.
• Guide other civil engineers and designers in completing civil engineering project work as needed.
• Prepare calculations for storm water drainage, sanitary sewer systems, pavement thickness, ponds and landfills, and earthwork to support permitting and design.
• Prepare technical specifications to define construction requirements.
• Prepare site layout, grading, and drainage designs and collaborate with designers to accurately portray designs in 3‑D models and drawings.
• Design storm drainage systems, roads, trackwork, water storage and wastewater disposal ponds, and solid waste landfills.
• Review contractor and material submittal drawings and other vendor documentation for conformity with technical specifications.
• Possibly travel to client offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

Qualifications

• BSCE from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
• PE license or ability to earn a PE license.
• Five or more years of experience in a project team environment designing industrial projects, preferably power plant projects.
• Specific experience in site grading and mass earthwork, storm water management, sanitary sewage systems, process wastewater systems, and road and railroad track design.
• Experience in technical writing for reports, calculations, and specifications.
• Experience in preparing, submitting, and obtaining site related permits from regulatory agencies.
• Proficiency with civil engineering design tools such as Civil 3D, StormCad, PondPack, and AutoTurn.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Based in Fort Worth, TX with occasional travel.

Hybrid work schedule: This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in‑office work 3 days per week.

• Lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution, setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows.
• Direct automation and process‑improvement work, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation, and guiding use of AI or agentic AI tools while ensuring results are checked.
• Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, reviewing automated outputs.
• Value additional learning such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields.

Compensation Range
