Job summary

R. Joe Harris & Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineer & Department Manager to lead land development and civil site projects across residential, commercial, and municipal developments while mentoring staff and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team.

You will oversee design, grading, drainage, utilities, and regulatory approvals, uphold budgets and schedules, and present to clients; a PE license and 10+ years in civil/site work are required, with SC/NC licensure preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of land development and civil site work experience.
• Active PE license (SC and/or NC preferred).
• Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation or similar software.
• Strong leadership with mentoring and staff management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering teams in design and execution of land development projects (site layout, stormwater, utilities, roadways).
• Navigate zoning, regulatory requirements, and permitting processes to secure approvals.
• Present designs and updates to clients; act as technical resource and project representative.
• Mentor, train, and guide engineers and staff for skill growth and quality standards.
• Manage engineering teams to meet deadlines, budgets, and goals.
• Conduct engineering analyses and develop cost-effective solutions.
• Collaborate with surveyors, architects, planners, environmental specialists and others to deliver integrated solutions.
• Incorporate sustainability and green-infrastructure practices.
