Job description

Leap29 are seeking an accomplished Senior Civil Engineer / Civil Engineering Consultant to join a leading international engineering consultancy and play a key role in delivering complex, high-value projects across the mining, water resources, hydropower and infrastructure sectors.

This is a senior consulting position for an engineer who is ready to operate beyond technical delivery — taking ownership of major projects, advising clients, leading multidisciplinary teams and helping shape project strategy from concept through design, construction and close-out.

You will work alongside highly experienced engineers, geotechnical specialists, project managers and industry leaders, providing independent technical advice and practical engineering solutions on challenging projects in the US and internationally.

The Role

As a senior member of the consultancy, you will provide technical leadership and client-facing expertise across the full project lifecycle. This role can be based in Colorado, Arizona or Nevada.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the delivery of complex civil engineering and infrastructure projects from feasibility and concept through detailed design, construction and commissioning.
  • Acting as a trusted technical advisor to clients, understanding their objectives and translating complex engineering challenges into practical, commercially viable solutions.
  • Providing senior technical direction across civil, geotechnical and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Leading the development and review of engineering analyses, designs, specifications, technical reports and construction documentation.
  • Overseeing site investigations, field programmes, construction monitoring and technical assurance activities.
  • Providing technical input into major infrastructure including tailings and water-retaining dams, pipelines, mine infrastructure, earthworks and hydropower facilities.
  • Reviewing and challenging engineering solutions to ensure they meet technical, regulatory, constructability and risk requirements.
  • Managing technical interfaces between civil, geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental and other specialist disciplines.
  • Supporting project managers with scope, programme, risk, resourcing and commercial management.
  • Leading client meetings, technical workshops and project presentations.
  • Developing scopes of work, fee proposals, schedules and technical approaches for new opportunities.
  • Supporting business development and identifying opportunities to expand existing client relationships.
  • Mentoring and developing engineers, helping to build the next generation of technical leaders within the consultancy.
  • Representing the business professionally with clients, contractors, regulators and other project stakeholders.
What We're Looking For

We are looking for a consulting engineer with strong technical credibility and the confidence to operate at senior client and project level.

You will ideally have:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • 10+ years' experience in civil engineering consulting, ideally within mining, infrastructure, water resources, hydropower or major earthworks.
  • Strong experience in civil and/or geotechnical engineering design and analysis.
  • A track record of leading complex engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrable experience working directly with clients and managing senior stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience developing technical proposals, scopes, fee estimates and project strategies.
  • Strong technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • The ability to assess complex engineering problems, exercise sound professional judgement and provide clear recommendations.
  • A commercial mindset, with an understanding of project profitability, risk and client value.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build credibility with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to undertake domestic and international travel as required.
Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to join a specialist engineering consultancy with a global reputation, working on technically challenging projects where senior engineers have genuine influence over project outcomes and client strategy.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work on major and technically complex projects across the mining, water, hydropower and infrastructure sectors.
  • Take a visible leadership role with key clients.
  • Combine deep technical engineering with strategic consulting and advisory work.
  • Influence project direction rather than simply deliver defined engineering packages.
  • Work across both office and field environments, including international project opportunities.
  • Develop your profile as a recognised technical and client-facing consultant.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to the continued growth of a high-performing technical team.
The Person

You are likely to be someone who has reached — or is approaching — Senior Engineer, Technical Lead, Associate or Principal Consultant level within an engineering consultancy.

You may currently be responsible for technical delivery but are looking for a role offering greater client exposure, project ownership, strategic influence and commercial responsibility.

Most importantly, you combine strong engineering judgement with the ability to advise clients, lead teams and develop solutions to complex problems.

If you are an experienced civil engineer looking to move into a more senior, consultancy-led position where technical expertise, client relationships and leadership are equally valued, this could be an excellent next step.
