Job summary

WHB Engineers is seeking a Senior Engineer (Engineer IV) to lead a San Mateo team with nine+ years of civil engineering experience. You’ll supervise staff, shape client relationships, and influence how work is won and delivered.

The role blends technical excellence with administrative leadership and growth opportunities. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers on challenging public and private infrastructure projects and mentor others while advancing your own career within a long-standing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Nine+ years of design experience with project management responsibility.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong client-facing skills and professional interaction with clients.
• Self-motivated, goal-driven, and detail-oriented.
• Solid working knowledge of the MS Office Suite.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Engineer (Engineer IV) with 9+ years of experience to join our San Mateo team and take on real ownership from day one. You'll supervise and mentor a team of talented engineers, help shape client relationships, and have real input into how we win and deliver work.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, adaptable civil engineering professional with the potential to market and win work, the ability to supervise a team, and comfort with administrative leadership.

Client management and sales experience is a plus. You bring growing organizational, leadership, and communication skills, work well both independently and in a team setting, and carry yourself with a personable, professional demeanor.

What You’ll Do

• Supervise and mentor the work of Staff Engineers, helping them grow their own careers
• Help prepare proposals and serve as the firm’s responsible point of contact with client Project Managers
• Keep projects profitable, on schedule, and aligned with client requirements

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
• Nine or more years of demonstrated design experience with project management responsibility
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong client‑facing skills, with the ability to interact professionally and knowledgeably with clients
• Self‑motivated, goal‑oriented, and detail‑driven
• Solid working knowledge of the MS Office Suite
