Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a civil engineer to perform reviews and develop preliminary civil designs for utility-scale power projects. You will work with multidisciplinary teams, translating complex technical data into actionable information for stakeholders involved in development, design, construction, and finance.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, 10+ years of design experience, and proficiency with major civil software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans, drawings, calculations and models.
  • 5+ years in detailed design of site grading, drainage, stormwater, road design, transport plans, track design, and ponds.
  • Proficiency with civil engineering software such as ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, StormCAD, PondPack, FLO-2D Pro, and AutoTURN.

Responsibilities

  • Perform civil engineering reviews including storm water drainage, sanitary sewer systems, road design, and earthwork.
  • Support preparation of general arrangement drawings with other disciplines.
  • Prepare preliminary civil designs including grading, erosion control, drainage, and access roads with BOQ.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications to define construction requirements.
  • Advise power project developers.
  • Evaluate new power and infrastructure projects to support financing.
  • Develop technical reports for owners, developers, governmental agencies, committees, and financiers.

SLC works on behalf of clients to support utility-scale thermal, solar, wind, battery energy storage, and other power generating and infrastructure projects. We evaluate and optimize technical, commercial, environmental, and financial aspects of the projects for a variety of clients.
This Position Will Require You To Perform Civil Engineering Reviews And Prepare Preliminary Civil Designs, And To Understand Power Projects And Distill Technical Expertise Into Actionable Information That Project Stakeholders Rely On To Prudently Develop, Design, Construct, Operate, And Finance Those Projects. Working In Multi-disciplinary Project Teams, You Will Perform Tasks Such As The Following

  • Perform civil engineering reviews, including storm water drainage, sanitary sewer systems, road design, and earthwork
  • Support preparation of general arrangement drawings in coordination with other disciplines, such as mechanical and electrical engineers
  • Prepare preliminary civil designs including items such as grading, erosion control, drainage and stormwater, wastewater, and access roads designs, with the associated bill of quantities
  • Prepare and review technical specifications to define construction requirements
  • Advise power project developers
  • Evaluate new power and infrastructure projects independently to support financing
  • Develop technical reports for applicable audiences – including owners, developers, governmental agencies and committees, and financiers

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential Skills And Experience
  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. A Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering or business (e.g., MBA) discipline is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, calculations, and models.
  • 5+ years of experience in detailed design of site grading and drainage, stormwater systems, road design, transport plans, track design, and ponds.
  • Proficiency with civil engineering software programs such as ArcGIS Pro, Autodesk Civil 3D, HydroCAD, StormCAD, PondPack, FLO-2D Pro, and AutoTURN. Must be capable of working in geospatially located tools.
  • Power plant (combined cycle, simple cycle, nuclear, wind, solar) project design experience.
  • Experience in writing and providing support documentation for Civil Engineering specifications or calculations.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple parallel, fast-paced tasks within schedule and assigned budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical evaluation report writing.

$118,023 - $180,313
