Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced civil engineer to perform comprehensive civil reviews and preliminary designs for power-generation projects. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, prepare drawings, specs, and reports, and guide project stakeholders through development, design, construction, and financing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years in design techniques for technical plans, drawings, calculations, and models.
  • 5+ years in site grading, drainage, stormwater, road design, transport, and ponds.
  • Proficiency with civil engineering software (ArcGIS Pro, AutoTURN, Civil 3D, HydroCAD, StormCAD, PondPack, FLO-2D).
  • Experience on power plant projects (combined cycle, simple cycle, nuclear, wind, solar).
  • Ability to write and support Civil Engineering specifications or calculations.
  • Ability to work in a team and prioritize multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform civil engineering reviews including storm water drainage, sewer systems, road design, and earthwork.
  • Support preparation of general arrangement drawings with other disciplines.
  • Prepare preliminary civil designs and associated bill of quantities.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications for construction requirements.

Description

SLC works on behalf of clients to support utility-scale thermal, solar, wind,battery energy storage, and other power generating and infrastructure projects. We evaluate and optimize technical, commercial, environmental, and financial aspects of the projects for a variety of clients.

This position will require you to perform civil engineering reviews and prepare preliminary civil designs, and to understand power projects and distill technical expertise into actionable information that project stakeholders rely on to prudently develop, design, construct, operate, and finance those projects. Working in multi-disciplinary project teams, you will perform tasks such as the following:

  • Perform civil engineering reviews, including storm water drainage, sanitary sewer systems, road design, and earthwork
  • Support preparation of general arrangement drawings in coordination with other disciplines, such as mechanical and electrical engineers
  • Prepare preliminary civil designs including items such as grading, erosion control, drainage and stormwater, wastewater, and access roads designs, with the associated bill of quantities
  • Prepare and review technical specifications to define construction requirements
  • Advise power project developers
  • Evaluate new power and infrastructure projects independently to support financing
  • Develop technical reports for applicable audiences – including owners, developers, governmental agencies and committees, and financiers

This is a remote/virtual position. Candidate can be based anywhere within the United States.

Essential skills and experience:

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. A Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering or business (e.g., MBA) discipline is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, calculations, and models.
  • 5+ years of experience in detailed design of site grading and drainage, stormwater systems, road design, transport plans, track design, and ponds.
  • Proficiency with civil engineering software programs such as ArcGIS Pro, Autodesk Civil 3D, HydroCAD, StormCAD, PondPack, FLO-2D Pro, and AutoTURN. Must be capable of working in geospatially located tools.
  • Power plant (combined cycle, simple cycle, nuclear, wind, solar) project design experience.
  • Experience in writing and providing support documentation for Civil Engineering specifications or calculations.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple parallel, fast-paced tasks within schedule and assigned budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical evaluation report writing.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Data analysis and visualization
  • Project finance or business acumen
  • Construction project management and/or scheduling software knowledge
  • Project planning, leadership, and organizational skills

  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

$118,023 - $180,313
