Job summary

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a Senior Civil CADD Technician to lead advanced drafting for CIP projects, using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Plant 3D, and related platforms. This role functions as a technical lead for CADD standards and training, collaborating across SPU and SDOT with partner agencies.

The position requires 4 years of civil engineering experience, an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology (or equivalent), and strong knowledge of CAD software.

Qualifications

• Requires four (4) years’ civil engineering experience.
• Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two (2) years' of college coursework in engineering and construction technology.
• Six (6) years’ civil engineering experience (Education Equivalency).

Responsibilities

• Draft & deliver CIP plan sets, permit drawings, options analyses, and related drawings.
• Perform As-Built and Record Drawing drafting from inspectors’ notes and field data.
• Develop contract plans and record drawings for SPU and SDOT.
• Coordinate with other agencies and internal teams on projects.
• Serve as technical lead or trainer for CAD-related software and workflows.

Job description

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a Senior Civil CADD Technician (Sr. CE Spec.) to support the Project Delivery & Engineering Branch. This role requires advanced drafting and design services using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Plant 3D, and related platforms for SPU and SDOT capital projects, crew work, and as built/record drawings. Reporting to the Design & Record Drafting Supervisor, the position serves as a technical lead for CADD standards, training & further developing team members CADD skill sets, and technology improvements while collaborating with internal teams and partner agencies to draft & deliver accurate, high-quality plan sets.

SPU is a community-centered utility that delivers vital services to Seattle residents and businesses including drinking water, drainage and wastewater, and garbage/recycling/compost. • Work closely with SPU Land Survey and SPU Engineering to develop advertised Capital Improvement Projects (CIP).
• Assist the supervisor in the continued development and research of CAD technology improvements for the department.
• Subject matter expert in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D, Sheet Set Manager, BIM 360, Forma, Plant 3D, Navisworks or Cloud Worx and other AutoCAD software to perform intricate, computer-aided drafting of CIP plan sets - including permit drawings, options analysis plans, project cover sheets, CSEC, demolition, water, sewer & storm drainage plans and profiles, 3 dimensional pump station drafting, grading & paving plans and profiles, intersection geometry layouts for ADA ramps, electrical plans such as SCADA or other wiring diagrams, cross sections, details, etc.
• Use AutoCAD Civil 3D or other AutoCAD software to perform As-Built and Record Drawing drafting, including research and verification of data. Interpret inspectors’ notes, surveys, and existing records to assure that maps and drawings are accurate and reflect improvements made in the field.
• Use AutoCAD Civil 3D or other AutoCAD software to develop contract plans, as-built drawings, and record drawings for SPU and SDOT.
• Coordinates and cooperates with other agencies, departments, divisions, and private utilities involved in or affected by projects.
• Serve as a technical lead and/or trainer for the Design & Record Drafting team in the future development of CADD-related software.
• Work with the Design & Record Drafting Supervisor to stay current with CAD technology, further our performance metrics, and reduce budgetary concerns.

Experience:

Requires four (4) years’ civil engineering experience

Education:

Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two (2) years' of college coursework in engineering and construction technology

Experience and Education Equivalency:

Six (6) years’ civil engineering experience

License, Certification, and Other Requirements:

Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility

Desired Qualifications:

• Advance knowledge of CAD related issues, CAD standards and advancements in CAD software
• Eight (8) or more years of experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D & Sheet Set Manager in a production environment
• Two (2) or more years of experience using either Plant 3D, Jet Stream, Cloud Worx & BIM 360, Forma as a project administrator
• Advanced CAD skills & Civil Engineering knowledge in creating plan sets for Civil or Municipal construction projects, advertised plan sets, as-built, and record drafting
• Experience using the internet for research. Exceptional skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
• Exceptional verbal & written skills, including the ability to coordinate and communicate effectively vertically and cross-departmentally
• Proven ability to perform within a budget and rigid schedule
• A history of adaptation, providing creative technical solutions and the ability to work with a diverse, matrix-managed organization focused on increasing efficiency and customer satisfaction

Workplace Environment:

This position requires 4-5 days on-site. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor. Most work is performed in a normal office environment.
