Qualifications

Juris Doctorate is required.
Seven years of progressively responsible legal experience in environmental/public utilities law is highly preferred; four years minimum.
Admission to the Virginia State Bar and licensed to practice in Virginia.
Twelve hours of continuing legal education annually.

Responsibilities

Provide legal services to the City, focusing on water utilities and related regulatory matters.
Research legal issues and provide advice and direction to the City and department staff.
Review, draft, and negotiate transactional documents; draft ordinances; interpret applicable laws and regulations.
Supervise paralegal and legal secretarial staff and manage workload with ethics and professionalism.
