Job summary

L’Oréal Research & Innovation Open Development in El Segundo, CA seeks a Senior Chemist I to lead cosmetic formulation work for Urban Decay and Nyx brands. You will bridge external partners with internal teams to ensure performance, stability, and compliant formulation.

You will collaborate across vendors, regulatory, safety, and marketing to drive projects, validate claims, scout new materials, and mentor partners, all while navigating global regulations and a hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related science.
• 3–5 years cosmetics formulation experience, color cosmetics.
• Hybrid background with regulatory, claims or product development is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Vendor Collaboration & Launch Execution: work with vendors to deliver high-performance formulations and monitor stability.
• Technical Integrity & Compliance: ensure formulations pass internal and industry tests with regulatory alignment.
• Project Leadership: manage multiple Urban Decay and NYX projects with minimal supervision.
• Claims Orchestration: translate tests into actionable product insights for claims validation.
• Strategic Scouting: identify new materials and tech for UD’s disruptive pipeline.
• Communication & Ambassadorship: present technical info to Marketing and vendors; monitor regs.
• Process Improvement: lead complex projects to improve Open Development processes.
• Mentorship: train vendors and support teams to uphold product quality.
