Job summary

Battelle Memorial Institute in Washington, DC is seeking a Chemist to join a multidisciplinary team supporting a large government contract. You will maintain laboratory readiness, mentor staff, and ensure compliant analytical activities in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities span experimental design, data analysis, reporting, and proposal support. The role requires a Bachelor’s in chemistry/biology or related field, 2+ years of lab experience, and ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and at least two years of relevant lab work.
• Experience designing and executing chemistry/biochemistry experiments.
• Proficiency with lab equipment and open-source software tools.
• Experience following SOPs in ISO 17025 environments.
• Strong written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute laboratory-based experiments for sample analysis.
• Develop new chemical analysis techniques independently or with minimal guidance.
• Mentor and train laboratory personnel to ensure procedures and quality standards.
• Troubleshoot issues with test methods and equipment with guidance from the shift lead.
• Analyze data and assist in preparing technical reports and presentations.
• Support identifying business opportunities and development of proposals.
