Job summary

Battelle seeks a Chemist for a full-time position in Washington, DC, supporting a large government contract. You will join a multidisciplinary team, maintain lab readiness, mentor staff, and ensure SOPs and safety standards are followed in a mission-driven lab.

Responsibilities include designing experiments, developing analysis techniques, interpreting data, and contributing to technical reports and proposals. Travel domestically may be required; contingent on contract award.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, or related field.
• At least two years of relevant laboratory work experience.
• Experience with SOPs in ISO 17025 or similar quality systems.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team and train staff.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute lab-based experiments for sample analysis and characterization.
• Develop new chemical analysis techniques independently.
• Identify gaps and suggest improvements to methods and workflows.
• Mentor and train laboratory personnel to ensure quality standards.
• Troubleshoot test methods and equipment with guidance from the shift lead.
• Meet study objectives and deliverables with senior scientists.
• Analyze data and assist in preparing technical reports and presentations.
• Support development of proposals, white papers, and marketing plans.
• Follow safety guidelines with hazardous and infectious materials.
