Job summary

Mackinnon Bruce International is seeking a Senior Formulation Chemist with deep expertise in surfactant chemistry to join our client’s technical team in a hands-on role. The position focuses on bench formulation (90%) and technical customer support (10%), designing cutting-edge cleaning and surface care solutions.

The candidate will independently design and test complex formulations, collaborate with sales teams and key accounts, and work with senior leadership to drive new product development.

Qualifications

• 10+ years hands-on formulation experience in a laboratory setting, with deep technical proficiency in surfactant chemistry.
• Experience in HI&I, Industrial & Institutional, or Personal Care formulations.
• Autonomy to formulate independently on the bench from day one.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulation Excellence: Independently design, optimise, and test complex formulations focused on surfactants, solvent systems, and cleaning additives for HI&I and Home Care applications.
• Technical Service & Customer Support: Collaborate with sales teams and key customer accounts to provide technical solutions, product selection guidance, and troubleshooting.
• Bench & Lab Operations: Perform rigorous analytical evaluation, maintain lab equipment, document trial data in enterprise systems, and uphold strict site safety standards.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with the VP of Technology, SVP of Sales, and key global supplier partners (Principals) to drive new product development.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 10 years of hands-on formulation experience in a laboratory setting, with deep technical proficiency in surfactant chemistry.
• Industry Background: Strong track record in Household Care, Industrial & Institutional (HI&I) cleaning, or Personal Care formulation.
• Education: Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related physical sciences.
• Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to formulate independently on the bench from day one.
• Location & On-Site Requirement: Based in or willing to relocate to Boca Raton, FL (5 days/week on-site laboratory environment).
• Work Authorisation: Must be authorised to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
