Job summary

Johnson Matthey is seeking a Senior Chemical Operator in Savannah, GA. The role involves operating transfers between tanks, following SOPs, and ensuring safety and environmental practices are observed.

The successful candidate will troubleshoot equipment, assist maintenance, collect samples for QC, and manage material inventory while maintaining detailed logs. This position requires rotating shifts and offers comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
• Experience with chemical mixing preferred
• Experience operating a forklift preferred
• Must be able to become forklift certified
• Ability to perform basic math and interpret data
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Willingness to work rotating shifts

Responsibilities

• Operate transfers of products between tanks using pumps and conveyors per SOPs.
• Troubleshoot process equipment and report issues to supervision.
• Inspect, clean, and perform minor repairs on machinery.
• Prepare equipment for maintenance and assist maintenance staff.
• Draw product samples and submit to QC laboratory for analysis.
• Unload bulk chemical deliveries and monitor raw material usage.
• Maintain area logs and communicate production and maintenance details.
• Manage inventory in intermediate bulk containers.
• Ensure area cleanliness and perform related tasks as assigned.

The Role:

As a Senior Chemical Operator, you will help drive our goals by:

• Knows, and observes all Standard Operating Procedures, safety procedures and rules, and environmental practices.
• Transfers products into and out of various process and storage tanks using pumps, screw conveyors and other transfer systems according to defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Troubleshoots all problems that occur on product transfer and other area equipment and reports issues to supervision.
• Inspects and cleans all machinery within their scope of authority and performs minor repairs when necessary.
• Prepares assigned equipment for maintenance. Assists maintenance personnel with both preventive and unscheduled maintenance.
• Draws product samples at prescribed intervals and submits them to the QC laboratory for analysis.
• Unloads liquid chemical bulk delivery trucks.
• Maintains an accurate account of raw material usage on batch sheets.
• Maintains an accurate account of daily tasks in the area logbook.
• Communicates with previous and incoming shift personnel regarding production, maintenance and other pertinent details as captured in the area logbook.
• Manages inventory of material in intermediate bulk containers.
• Responsible for the cleanliness of the area assigned.
• May perform other related assignments and operate other equipment as determined by supervision.

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

• High School diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Experience with chemical mixing preferred
• Experience operating a forklift preferred
• Must be able to become forklift certified
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. This includes the ability to rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. They need the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Basic computer skills
• Self motivated individual with good time management skills
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ROTATING SHIFTS.
