Job summary

E Ink Corporation is seeking a Senior Chemical Engineer to join the Process Development Team. You will create, improve, and maintain pilot-scale systems enabling commercial-scale production of electrophoretic materials, including pigments, dispersions, and microcapsules.

You’ll design equipment, lead installations, and drive process innovation across the organization. You will collaborate across Development, Research, and Facilities, troubleshoot systems, and ensure compliance with EHS.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years of industrial process systems engineering experience.
• Reading P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and fabrication drawings.
• Experience sizing and selecting chemical fluid lines, pumps, valves, and instrumentation.
• Basic electrical knowledge to read wiring diagrams and troubleshoot low voltage circuitry.
• Working knowledge of process automation (P&ID controllers, instrumentation, transmitters, VFDs, PLCs).
• Clear communication and cross-functional teamwork skills.
• Six Sigma / statistical analysis familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Design new process systems and create PFDs/P&IDs, size lines, and select equipment.
• Lead installation of new process systems with internal and external teams.
• Act as a technical resource for process equipment and reactor design.
• Coordinate with vendors for design and installation of equipment.
• Perform hands-on assembly, modification, commissioning, and troubleshooting of pilot-scale systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Development, Research, and Facilities to support needs and ensure EHS compliance.
• Design and optimize chemical processes for commercial production of surface treated pigments and dispersions.
• Plan and execute experiments to identify and control materials and process steps affecting final product performance.

THE ROLE

As a member of E Ink’s Process Development Team, the Senior Chemical Engineer will be entrusted with fulfilling our mission of bringing smart displays to the world. The team member in this roleis responsible forcreating, improving, andmaintainingpilot-scale systems that enable commercial-scale production of E Ink’s unique electrophoretic materials - including pigments, colloidal dispersions, microcapsules, and other additives.

We’relooking for someone who can help us build what we need, but also someone who can figure out what we should be building in the first place. This team member will have experience designing and building specialized equipment and will be excited to drive equipment-based innovation across the organization!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Design new process systems.Create PFDs, evaluate alternative technologies, generate P&IDs, perform engineering calculations, draft fabrication drawings, work with outside vendors to select and customize process equipment, select components, and size lines.
• Lead the installation of new process systemsin collaboration with both internal and external teams.
• Act as a companywidetechnical resourceon process equipment such as reactor vessel design, pumps, mixers, temperature control systems, and sensors.
• Evaluate, select, and communicate with all relevantthird-party vendors(piping, controls, etc.)requiredfor the design and installation of new process equipment.
• Performhands-onassembly, modification, commissioning, and troubleshooting of new and existing pilot-scale chemical process systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionallyto coordinate capabilities within Development and Research departments, communicate support needs toFacilitiesdepartment, and ensure responsiveness to EHS requirements.
• Design andoptimizechemical processesfor the commercial production of E Ink’s surface treated pigments, microcapsules, and dispersions.
• Plan and execute experimentstoidentify, evaluate, and control the properties of materials or process steps that are critical to final product performance.
