Job summary

E Ink Corporation is seeking a Senior Chemical Engineer to join the Process Development Team. You will design, build, and optimize pilot-scale systems enabling commercial production of electrophoretic materials—pigments, colloids, microcapsules, and additives—and drive equipment-based innovation across the organization.

You will lead cross-functional projects, perform system design, evaluation of vendors, and hands-on assembly and troubleshooting, contributing to scale-up and process

Responsibilities

• Design new process systems; create PFDs, P&IDs, perform calculations and drafting.
• Lead the installation of new process systems with internal and external teams.
• Act as a company-wide technical resource on reactor vessels, pumps, and controls.
• Evaluate third-party vendors for piping, controls, and equipment.
• Perform hands-on assembly, modification, commissioning, and troubleshooting of pilot-scale systems.
• Coordinate with Development, Research, Facilities, and EH&S to meet needs and compliance.
• Design and optimize chemical processes for commercial production of pigments, microcapsules, and dispersions.
• Plan and run experiments to identify and control material properties affecting product performance.

THE ROLE

As a member of E Ink’s Process Development Team, the Senior Chemical Engineer will be entrusted with fulfilling our mission of bringing smart displays to the world. The team member in this roleis responsible forcreating, improving, andmaintainingpilot-scale systems that enable commercial-scale production of E Ink’s unique electrophoretic materials – including pigments, colloidal dispersions, microcapsules, and other additives.

We’relooking for someone who can help us build what we need, but also someone who can figure out what we should be building in the first place. This team member will have experience designing and building specialized equipment and will be excited to drive equipment-based innovation across the organization!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Design new process systems.Create PFDs, evaluate alternative technologies, generate P&IDs, perform engineering calculations, draft fabrication drawings, work with outside vendors to select and customize process equipment, select components, and size lines.
• Lead the installation of new process systemsin collaboration with both internal and external teams.
• Act as a companywidetechnical resourceon process equipment such as reactor vessel design, pumps, mixers, temperature control systems, and sensors.
• Evaluate, select, and communicate with all relevantthird-party vendors(piping, controls, etc.)requiredfor the design and installation of new process equipment.
• Performhands-onassembly, modification, commissioning, and troubleshooting of new and existing pilot-scale chemical process systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionallyto coordinate capabilities within Development and Research departments, communicate support needs toFacilitiesdepartment, and ensure responsiveness to EHS requirements.
• Design andoptimizechemical processesfor the commercial production of E Ink’s surface treated pigments, microcapsules, and dispersions.
• Plan and execute experimentstoidentify, evaluate, and control the properties of materials or process steps that are critical to final product performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

• BS or MS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
• 7+ years of industrial process systems engineering experience
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on attitude
• Ability to read P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and fabrication drawings
• Experience sizing and selecting chemical fluid lines, pumps, valves, and instrumentation
• Basic electrical knowledgerequiredto read wiring diagrams and troubleshoot low voltage circuitry
• Working knowledge of process automation (P&ID controllers, instrumentation, transmitters, VFDs, PLCs)
• Clear and effective communication skills
• Ability to function effectively as a member of cross-functional, cross-disciplinary, and inter-corporate teams
• Effective prioritization and time management to meet project goals / milestones
• Familiarity with Six Sigma / statistical analysis methods

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing pressure vessels thatcomply withASME BPVC
• Experience commissioning new process equipment
• Experience with mixer design
• LabVIEWproficiency
• Working knowledge of industrial codes (NFPA, NEC, ASME)
• Basic SolidWorks and 3D printing skills
• Experience operating machining equipment such as drill presses and lathes
• Basic project management skills such as creating budgets, timelines, and updates on multiple small projects
• Knowledge of typical fabrication methods

COMPENSATIONDISCLOSURE

At E Ink, we believe in rewarding employees with competitive total compensation through a combination of base salary and performance-basedbonuses, witha largerportionof total compensation delivered through our annual bonus program than is typical at many companies. To provide applicants with a more complete picture of our compensation philosophy, we aredisclosingboth the estimated annual total compensation and the annual base salary range for this position. For this position, the estimated annual total compensation range is$170,000 to $ 235,000,based on the Company's most recent annual bonus payout. The annual base salary range for this position is$120,000 to$150,000.

The annual base salary range reflects the Company's good-faith estimate of the base salary itreasonably expectsto pay for this position at the time of posting. Actual starting base salary isdeterminedbased on job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, certifications, and other qualifications. Annual bonus payments are based on Company performance, are not guaranteed, and may be higher or lower than the estimate reflected above.
