E Ink Corporation seeks an experienced Coating Engineer to join the Coating and Lamination Process development team in Massachusetts. You will develop innovative coating and lamination solutions for next-generation ePaper materials, planning and executing pilot- and production-scale experiments with cross-functional colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in coating, lamination, roll-to-roll processing, thin films, web handling, converting, or related process development.
  • Hands-on experience developing, optimizing, or scaling manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with coating or lamination technologies such as slot die, gravure, blade coating, or multilayer lamination.
  • Knowledge of DOE, statistical analysis, and data-driven process optimization.
  • Familiarity with material and process characterization techniques such as rheology, mechanical testing, film thickness, or related measurements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan and execute technical projects, set priorities, and work independently in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across R&D, engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and external partners

THE ROLE

E Ink’s Development Group is looking for an experienced Coating Engineer to join the Coating and Lamination Process development team. As a member of this team, this individual will work on next generation ePaper products that support our mission of Making Surfaces Smarter and Green. The Coating Engineer will be responsible for developing innovative coating and lamination solutions for E Ink’s unique materials. Working within cross functional project teams, this individual will be responsible for planning and executing complex pilot and production-scale experiments to develop creative coating and lamination solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction in implementing a wide range of coating application methods to support new design and materials introduction into the next generation of ePaper devices
  • Act as a subject-matter expert and mentor, interacting across multiple groups to define coating requirements of new materials, including fluids and coating substrate materials, and develop and demonstrate process capabilities for these requirements
  • Demonstrate fundamental relationships between process variables and device performance, with the goal of using what is learned for scale-up to production scale
  • Lead the design, management, and coordination of experiments on pilot-scale roll-to-roll coating equipment
  • Conduct film characterizations to verify experimental formulations as they relate to electro-optical metrics and coating-related defects
  • Collaborate with and guide engineers and technicians, providing high-level troubleshooting expertise and issue reports
  • Drive documentation, best practices, and process transfer from Development to Production, ensuring scalability and manufacturability

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

COMPENSATION DISCLOSURE

At E Ink, we believe in rewarding employees with competitive total compensation through a combination of base salary and performance-based bonuses, with a larger portion of total compensation delivered through our annual bonus program than is typical at many companies. To provide applicants with a more complete picture of our compensation philosophy, we are disclosing both the estimated annual total compensation and the annual base salary range for this position. For this position, the estimated annual total compensation range is $245,000 to $315,000, based on the Company's most recent annual bonus payout. The annual base salary range for this position is $170,000 to $200,000.

The annual base salary range reflects the Company's good-faith estimate of the base salary itreasonably expectsto pay for this position at the time of posting. Actual starting base salary isdeterminedbased on job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, certifications, and other qualifications. Annual bonus payments are based on Company performance, are not guaranteed, and may be higher or lower than the estimate reflected above.
