FM Global seeks a Lead Research Scientist in Structural Engineering to advance CFD/FSI research, develop high-fidelity models, and apply coupled simulations to assess wind and related loads on buildings, PV systems, and infrastructure. You will collaborate across disciplines, validate models, and contribute to risk-informed loss estimation.

The role emphasizes independent initiative, strong communication, and translating complex simulations into practical guidance for property risk prevention

Formación

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or closely related field required; 3 years of relevant experience preferred, or Master’s with at least 5 years experience.

Responsabilidades

• Lead research using CFD, FSI, and multiphysics to evaluate fluid loading, structural response, heat transfer, vibration, damage and failure.
• Develop high-fidelity CFD/FSI models with appropriate meshing, turbulence, boundary conditions and coupling strategies.
• Model wind and tornado loads on large buildings and PV systems, wind turbines and other exposed structures.
• Couple CFD with FE/structural dynamics to predict stresses, deformation, fatigue and buckling under extreme events.
• Validate models using wind-tunnel data, experiments, or field measurements, and quantify uncertainty.
