Job summary

Rose Hill Senior Citizens Club seeks a Senior Center Cook to prepare meals, create monthly menus, and supervise kitchen volunteers. Ideal candidates have 1–3 years cooking for large groups, a high school diploma or GED, food handler’s certificate, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Shifts are 8am–1pm, five days a week, at a rate of $12–$15 per hour. A 30-day probation applies; daily lunch ($40 value) is provided and accrues with days worked.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of prior experience cooking for large groups.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to be a team leader, manage time and inventory control.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Professional interaction with co-workers, the public, outside agencies, and vendors.
  • Working knowledge of kitchen appliances.
  • Able to stand and/or walk during a 5-hour shift.
  • Reports directly to Director with any concerns.
  • 24-hour notice if unable to work by notifying Director in person and/or a phone call (no texting).
  • No personal phone calls except emergencies and/or doctor calls.
  • Food handler’s certificate.
  • 30-day probationary period after hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Create menus (completed by the 25th of each month).
  • Prepare meals and order supplies for deliveries, pick-ups and dine-in.
  • Do not leave kitchen unattended without alerting someone.
  • Clean tables/kitchen/stove/sink at the end of each lunch.
  • Check/mark dates of fresh/frozen foods.
  • Maintain a list of supplies needed.
  • Monitor leftover food/not to be taken home without permission and/or paid for.
  • Hair must be pulled back from face unless short.
  • Operate kitchen equipment.
  • Order supplies as needed for fundraisers.
  • Supervise kitchen helpers/volunteers.
  • Ensure compliance with food health and safety guidelines.
  • Salary $12-$15 per hour/5-hours per day (8am-1pm)/5-days a week.
  • Free daily lunch equivalent to $40 per week and/or depending on number of days worked.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Professional interaction with co-workers, the public, outside agencies, and vendors.
  • Have working knowledge of kitchen appliances.
  • Able to stand and/or walk during a 5-hour shift.
  • Reports directly to Director with any concerns.
  • Will give 24-hour notice if unable to work by notifying Director in person and/or a phone call (no texting), i.e. family emergency/doctor appt.
  • No personal phone calls with exception of emergencies and/or doctor calls.
  • Have food handler’s certificate.
  • There will be a 30-day probationary period after hiring. At the end of the period, a job assessment will be conducted and a decision on a permanent position will be made.
