Job summary

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) seeks a Senior Computational Scientist to lead research and development in computational electromagnetics, acoustics, and physics. Based in Dayton, OH, you will oversee a multidisciplinary team and advance high‑performance software using C/C++, Python, and FORTRAN.

You will mentor engineers, develop PoCs and proposals, and drive AI/ML surrogates into real‑world solutions with strong leadership and business development skills.

Qualifications

• US citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a US Security clearance at SECRET or higher.
• PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field with specialization in Computational Science/Engineering.
• 6+ years of experience in computational modeling and simulation of complex physical phenomena.
• Demonstrated success developing and deploying high‑performance CEM software.
• Proven ability to write and contribute to winning technical proposals.
• Strong technical communication skills for team leadership and business development.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across diverse teams with leadership experience.
• Ability to manage and motivate individuals with a range of personalities.
• Growth mindset and enthusiasm for continuous learning.

Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in developing advanced computational solutions for complex physical problems.
• Develop algorithms and tools to model interactions of electromagnetic energy with complex media.
• Research and develop next generation CEM, acoustics, and fluid dynamics tools.
• Explore AI/ML techniques to extend traditional computational tools.
• Collaborate with mathematicians, physicists, RF/antennas engineers, and computer scientists on large-scale problems.
