Job summary

Ensurge Inc. in California is seeking a Principal Engineer for cell design and mechanical architecture to drive concept-to-prototype for next-generation microbatteries.

You will own CAD models, mask-set layout, stacking strategies, and manufacturability, collaborating with process, materials, and QA teams.

This hands-on role demands strong GD&T, problem solving, and the ability to lead design reviews from lab benches to production lines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Strong experience with 3D CAD and mechanical design.
• Experience with mask-set design, photolithography layouts, microfabrication, MEMS, semiconductor devices, thin-film batteries, or similar technologies.
• Experience designing multilayer structures, precision assemblies, or stacked devices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical and structural design of solid-state microbattery cells and multilayer cell architectures.
• Develop multiple cell design concepts and evaluate trade-offs between energy density, performance, manufacturability, reliability, yield, and cost.
• Define cell dimensions, layer structures, interfaces, tolerances, alignment requirements, and mechanical constraints.
• Develop detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, assemblies, and engineering specifications.
• Apply GD&T and design-for-manufacturing principles to precision microbattery components and assemblies.
• Analyze mechanical stresses, dimensional variation, thermal expansion, layer interfaces, and other factors affecting cell reliability.
• Establish design rules and standards for future cell generations.
