Job summary

CDM Smith’s on-site CEI team seeks an inspector to monitor construction activities across roadway, bridge, drainage, and related work at multiple project sites in the United States. This role requires evaluating materials and methods against plans, interpreting drawings, and communicating findings to project teams.

Responsibilities include complex inspections, calculations, and collaboration with supervisors, with travel up to 40%.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
• Intermediate knowledge of mathematical functions including geometry and trigonometry.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new applications.
• Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
• Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
• Ability to lead and instruct more junior inspectors.

Responsibilities

• Performing both complex and routine inspections of construction to evaluate materials and processes against plans, specifications and provisions.
• Uses higher-grade equipment and performs complex calculations for construction inspection.
• Works under supervision appropriate to knowledge level.
• Reviewing drawings to prepare for construction inspection.
• Documenting and communicating inspection results to supervisor.
