Job summary

Waggoner Engineering is seeking an experienced CE&I Senior Inspector – Transportation to support projects in the Birmingham or Huntsville, AL area. You will perform complex technical assignments involving field surveying, construction layout, engineering computations, construction inspections, and field testing.

You will also mentor lower-level inspectors while helping ensure quality, performance, specification, and code compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 8+ years of CE&I experience, or a Civil Engineering degree plus 2 years of related experience including ALDOT projects.
• Strong written communication and comprehension skills.
• Ability to work responsibly and independently.
• Physical endurance to work outdoors in extreme heat/cold and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Outdoor worksites with exposure to traffic and inclement weather; ability to travel/overnight stay.
• Valid driver’s license and clean MVR.
• Ability to complete drug screening and background check.
• ACI and ALDOT Concrete Technician certifications; ALDOT/APNGA Radiological Safety Course; CAMMS knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex technical assignments involving field surveying and construction layout, marking, checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests.
• Perform daily field inspections and maintain accurate inspection records.
• Monitor construction activities for conformance with quality, performance, specification, and/or code requirements.
• Coordinate, manage, and mentor lower-level inspectors.
• Provide and coordinate on-the-job training for new employees.
• Work under the supervision of the Resident Engineer/Project Engineer to plan and accomplish project goals.
• Establish and manage deadlines for assigned project responsibilities.
• Maintain safe work areas.
• Participate in punch lists, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Track quality assurance progress.
• Provide documentation for area and equipment turnovers.
