Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking a Data Scientist / Senior Data Scientist to join the Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics (CAT E&A) team. You will apply cutting‑edge data science to multi‑peril risk, build models for natural catastrophes, hazards, and cyber risks, and evaluate vendor models to support underwriting decisions.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Statistics, Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, or other quantitative discipline.
• Strong academic foundation in probability theory, statistical inference, stochastic processes, and Bayesian statistics.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and derive insights from large, diverse data sets including claims, hazard models, and geospatial sources.
• Develop and apply advanced data science techniques and ML/AI to understand and quantify risk.
• Communicate results clearly to actuaries, underwriters, and executives; support underwriting decisions with analytical tools.
