American Family Insurance is seeking a Senior Catastrophe Risk Analyst to lead complex catastrophe risk analyses and transform model results into actionable insights. You will partner with cross-functional teams to support strategic decision-making and influence portfolio risk and planning.

The position is hybrid, requiring a minimum of 10 days per month in the office, with candidates residing within 35-50 miles of Madison, WI or Boston, MA.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of experience preferred.
• Experience with programming languages like R or Python would be helpful.
• Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.
• Solid experience with catastrophe management software and catastrophe peril models.
• Proficient knowledge of natural catastrophe risk and its application to insurance and catastrophe modeling.
• Proficiency in programming languages for database access, scripting, and statistical analysis.
• Solid understanding of geospatial software tools and data.
• Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.
• Experience using large amounts of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
• Experience with project management methodologies and decision making.
• Up to 10% travel or work time.

Responsibilities

• Performs catastrophe modeling analyses using catastrophe modeling software for data input, model set-up, execution, results, and loss analytics.
• Communicates model fundamentals (Hazard, Vulnerability, and Financial components) to peers and other functions.
• Develops analytical tools, reports, and data to understand impacts of natural disasters on the enterprise.
• Explores natural hazard data to incorporate into the catastrophe exposure dashboard and into product, pricing, and underwriting.
• Assists preparing rate filings and DOI responses.
• Develops automation for monitoring catastrophe peril events daily and assessing impact.
• Evaluates catastrophe management software and models and explores industry best practices.
• Partners and assists catastrophe risk management team with insights and recommendations.
• Participates in selecting research tools and designing common research processes.
• Researches and maintains awareness of industry best practices and business strategies.
• Brings in new ideas and may be assigned other projects based on skills and experience.
