GenStar currently offers an excellent opportunity for a Senior Casualty Underwriter - GenStar based in our New York City office. This is a hybrid role.

Role Description

The Senior Underwriter performs a wide array of underwriting and marketing functions, demonstrating knowledge and competence in both client relationship management and technical underwriting skills. Responsibilities include analyzing and evaluating complex risks and exposures, applying knowledge of rates, forms, pricing structures, terms, and conditions in primary and excess casualty lines. The Underwriter collaborates with a team of professionals within the branch and corporately, leveraging resources to provide a best-in-class response to our clients.

Responsibilities
  1. Underwriting Analysis: Researches and analyzes complex risks and exposures, using critical thinking to structure competitive proposals. Manages a flow of risk submissions with an emphasis on quick response times, understanding the impact of decisions on profitability.
  2. Relationship Building: Focuses on strengthening existing client relationships and identifying new prospects. Develops strategies to expand opportunities through sound client management plans, influencing clients at management levels.
  3. Learning/Development: Actively increases industry knowledge by attending company and external seminars, pursuing courses like CPCU or ASLI.
  4. Related Activities: Leads or supports underwriting and marketing projects, including product development, training, and client events.
Role Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum five years of commercial liability underwriting experience within the surplus lines marketplace; eight or more years preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and client management skills.
  • Dedicated to ongoing learning and industry knowledge.
  • Enthusiastic team player and self-starter.
Salary Range

$106,000 - $178,000 USD. This range varies based on credentials, education, experience, location, and performance.
