Job summary

Acadia Insurance, Marlborough, MA, is seeking an experienced claims professional to investigate, evaluate, and resolve high exposure commercial liability claims. You will negotiate with insureds and third parties, coordinate with underwriting and loss control, and mentor junior staff.

The ideal candidate has 7–10 years in commercial liability claims, excellent negotiation and communication skills, and a strong ability to manage complex workloads while maintaining high service standards.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of commercial liability claims experience.
  • Strong negotiation and claims resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with agents and cross-department teams.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, evaluate and resolve assigned high exposure claims per standards and state requirements.
  • Perform timely investigations to determine coverage, liability and damages.
  • Negotiate with insureds and third parties to resolve claims fairly.
  • Control file-related expenses by using outside vendors effectively.
  • Inform other departments of conditions impacting results.
  • Manage workload to meet quality and quantity goals while delivering service.
  • Participate in account reviews and advise on loss ratio improvements.
  • Handle complex cases involving coverage, liability and damages under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, evaluate and resolve assigned high exposure claims in accordance with company standards, procedures, and state regulatory requirements.
  • Perform investigations in a timely and thorough manner to ensure accurate decisions on coverage, liability, and damage issues affecting claim resolutions.
  • Effectively negotiate with insureds and third parties, listening carefully to their demands and using an objective approach to resolve the claim fairly.
  • Control file-related expenses through efficient utilization and monitoring of "outside" vendors.
  • Inform other departments of positive/negative conditions noted during investigations which may impact company results.
  • Manage existing workloads effectively to achieve quality and quantity production goals while providing superior customer service.
  • Participate in special account reviews and present agents and insureds with recommendations for improving their loss ratio and information on best practices.
  • Under general direction, handles the most complex cases and those involving the most complex questions of coverage, compensability, legal liability and damages.
  • Handles most complex bodily injury, property damage and workers’ compensations cases utilizing experts and outside firms as required.
  • Works closely with underwriting in developing and interpreting policy language and, in conjunction with loss control, assists in the analysis and recommendations on loss sensitive and special accounts.
  • May serve as team leader or mentor in the training and development of less experienced staff and provides input in roundtable discussions.
  • Attends settlement conferences, depositions, trials and mediations on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor\'s degree

  • 7-10 years of commercial liability claims
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks and effectively prioritize workload
  • Demonstrated depth in negotiation and claims resolution skills.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to work with multi-faceted systems.
  • Ability to effectively and independently manage complex workload while exhibiting very sound judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with agents and other departments while exemplifying superior teamwork.
  • Advanced professional insurance coursework (i.e., AIC, CPCU) or completion of other insurance-related classes is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Base Salary Range: 110k-$120k
