Job summary

Mineola Gardens Wellness & Rehabilitation in Mineola, TX seeks an experienced Cook to prepare and serve meals according to the menu, monitor food handling, and ensure nutritionally appropriate meals with proper sanitation and safety standards.

The role requires following federal, state, and local regulations, collaborating with dietitians, and maintaining quality food service for residents in a long-term care setting. This is a full-time, split-shift position with benefits offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
• Two years as cook in a large-scale cooking operation preferred.
• One year’s work experience in long term care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes; refers to supervisor or dietitian for menu changes.
• Reviews menus, resident census information, production guides and pre-prep sheets to determine type and quantities of food to be prepared.
• Prepares food according to safe food handling guidelines per company policy and state and federal codes and regulations.
• Assists with food ordering, storage and preparation as designated by the supervisor; prepares food in a timely manner to preserve quality and serve on time.
• Maintains standards for food preparation and quality of food service; uses nutrition substitutes when required; follows recipes.
• Operates kitchen utensils/equipment: blender, mixer, slicer, steamer, processor, ovens, range; bakes, roasts, broils, steams.
• Completes pre-preparation such as washing, peeling and cutting vegetables/fruits; weighs/measures meats for nutrition accuracy.
• Tests and observes food by tasting for palatability; serves attractively with gravies and garnishes in menu.
• Monitors and records food temperatures prior to meal service.
• Makes menu changes under supervision; uses nutrition substitutes and seeks approval from supervisor or RD.

Education

High school diploma or equivalency preferred

Two years as cook in large-scale operation (preferred)

One year’s work experience in long term care (preferred)
