Job description

Overview

Senior Cardiac Sonographer at Beth Israel Lahey Health. Direct patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings; perform diagnostic noninvasive echocardiography using high-frequency ultrasonic waves with echocardiography equipment. Administrative management of electronic documentation for patient testing in accordance with policy and standards. Works in a team environment under the supervision of the Clinical Manager and department Leads.

Responsibilities
  • Performs echocardiogram diagnostic tests from Provider orders via EMR and reports test information with appropriate EMR documentation according to department policy and procedures; clarifies physician orders and goals of prescription.
  • Perform types of echocardiogram tests: diagnostic m-mode, two-dimensional, spectral Doppler, color Doppler, and exercise/pharmacological stress echocardiograms.
  • Place and remove peripheral IVs to administer contrast agent or agitated saline when imaging criteria are met via echocardiogram protocol.
  • Respond to STAT echo calls and Code Blues as required.
  • Identify abnormal/critical echocardiogram findings during testing and notify the physician as needed.
  • Troubleshoot technical methods of echocardiography as necessary.
  • Check echocardiogram equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly before patient use.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of echocardiogram machines and the echocardiogram electronic management system; access databases to retrieve and send data using clinical and financial information systems; troubleshoot basic machine issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of testing rooms and ensure stocking of supplies.

Qualifications
  • Education: Associate degree and/or equivalent experience in clinical testing environment; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: ARDMS/RDCS accreditation or accreditation-eligible; current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills. Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and the ability to apply that knowledge to diagnostic evaluation. Willingness to be trained to meet organizational standards as needed.
  • Experience: Minimum of four years of experience in echocardiography preferred.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $49.35 - $66.42 hourly. The base wage is a starting point; actual compensation is determined by factors including seniority, education, experience, certifications, location, and job responsibilities. Additional pay practices such as shift differentials, call pay, and overtime may apply as permitted by law.
