Calumet in Great Falls, MT is seeking a Sr. Capital Projects Manager to lead large-scale investment and infrastructure initiatives from concept to completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent industry experience.
• Advanced degrees or certificates a plus.
• At least 7+ years’ related experience in managing capital projects, turnarounds in oil, gas, and chemical industry.
• Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, budgeting, and procurement processes.
• Competent in MS Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint and Outlook. Primavera P6 scheduling a plus.
• Working knowledge of project controls terminology and scheduling processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct engineering, coordinating with procurement and construction to meet milestones and objectives.
• Support change management to define scope, schedule, and budgets.
• Establish project procedures aligned with PMG/FEL processes for engineering work, controls, schedules, and budgets.
• Represent engineering with operations, maintenance, constructors, subcontractors, and vendors at key meetings.
• Identify and secure approvals for changes in scope, budget, and schedule.
• Maintain ongoing communication with plant management and project engineers/leads.
• Manage relationships with consultants, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
• Ensure work products comply with industry standards, codes, and safety requirements.
• Provide training and mentoring to midlevel and senior engineers.
• Oversee planning, design, permitting, construction, and close-out of capital projects.
• Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and performance metrics.
• Facilitate project meetings and report updates to senior leadership.
• Conduct post-project evaluations to capture lessons learned.
• Support capital planning and long-term infrastructure strategy.

Position Summary

The Sr. Capital Projects Manager plays a pivotal role in leading large-scale investment and infrastructure projects from concept through completion at the facility. This position blends strategic planning, financial oversight, and project execution to ensure delivery of capital initiatives that align with organizational goals. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and cross-functional coordination to manage timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations. This position may include the coordination and oversight of several project managers or leads on larger projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and direct engineering, including others by collaborating, setting direction and expectations, coordinating with procurement and construction to meet project milestones and objectives.
• Support the project change management process to ensure project scope of work, schedule and budgets are clearly defined and understood.
• Establish project procedures consistent with company procedures and PMG / FEL processes, for engineering work, project controls, schedules, and budgets.
• Serve as engineering representative with operations, maintenance, constructors, subcontractors, and vendors at kick-off meetings, job walks, project reviews, and other project stakeholder engagements.
• Identify and secure necessary approvals for all changes in engineering scope, budget and/or schedule.
• Maintain ongoing communication with plant management, project engineers and leads as appropriate.
• Manage relationships with consultants, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
• Ensure all work products are consistent with industry standards and in accordance with good engineering practice and applicable codes, and in compliance with all pertinent legal codes and requirements.
• Provide ongoing training and mentoring to midlevel and senior engineers and/or project engineers to promote employee development.
• Oversee planning, design, permitting, construction, and close-out phases of capital projects.
• Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and performance metrics.
• Facilitate project meetings and provide regular updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Conduct post-project evaluations to capture lessons learned and improve future project delivery.
• Support capital planning efforts and contribute to long-term infrastructure strategy.

Work Environment

• Based out of Great Falls, MT site. While this is an office-based position, the successful candidate must be able to work in an operating plant for interfacing with operations, maintenance and construction contractors and extended shifts during outages.
• This position may involve traveling and interfacing with engineering contractors and vendors at home offices and facilities and may involve assignments for extended periods of time at those locations.
• Must be able to navigate construction environments and wear appropriate PPE when necessary.
