Job summary

Truist is seeking a capital markets attorney to serve as Associate General Counsel on the Investment Banking and Capital Markets legal team. The role focuses on securities and M&A advisory within Truist Securities’ capital markets activities, including debt and equity capital markets and related services.

The position requires in-office presence and may be based in Charlotte, NC or Atlanta, GA. Remote work is not available. Competitive base salary is noted with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and licensed to practice law in good standing.
  • Eight years of post‑bar experience in law firm, government, and/or corporate settings.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize matters and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to handle a heavy workload and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

  • Provide significant internal client legal support day to day.
  • Assess legal risk and provide legal advice, assisting in resolving issues facing the company.
  • Stay informed on legislation, regulations, and case law affecting the banking industry.
  • Prepare or review documents, represent the company in transactions, conduct legal research, and maintain records.
  • Identify when to engage outside counsel and direct matters as needed.
  • May supervise other legal staff and provide direction on active cases or projects.

Truist is currently seeking a capital markets attorney to serve as an Associate General Counsel as a part of the Investment Banking and Capital Markets legal team. The Investment Banking and Capital Markets legal team provides legal services related to Truist Securities’ investment banking business, including debt and equity capital markets, M&A advisory, equity and fixed income sales and trading, and equity research.

Maintain strong, productive relationships with key internal clients while serving as a trusted legal advisor, legal risk manager, and business partner. Serve as a subject matter expert in support of Truist’s Investment Banking and Capital Markets line of business, with a particular focus on securities and M&A advisory.

This role requires in-office presence and may be based in Charlotte, NC or Atlanta, GA. Remote work is not available for this position.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide significant internal client legal support day to day
  • Responsible for assessing legal risk, providing legal advice, and/or assisting in resolving legal problems which may represent potential exposure to the company.
  • Keeps abreast of legislation, regulations, and case law developments that affect the company and the banking industry in area of practice.
  • May prepare and/or review documents and other instruments, represent the company in transactions, perform legal research and analysis, and maintain files and records
  • Identify need for and when necessary, select, engage, and direct outside counsel to undertake specific matters.
  • Serve as an individual contributor but may provide ad hoc work direction and supervision to other legal staff regarding support on active cases or projects.


Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and licensed to practice law in good standing
  • Eight years of post-bar experience in a law firm, government, and/or corporate settings.

  • Ability to handle a heavy workload, manage stress effectively and meet critical deadlines
  • Able to work autonomously without close supervision

  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Corporate securities experience at a large law firm, with substantial experience in equity capital markets
  • Some experience with M&A
  • Comfortable working in the entrepreneurial environment of a large, complex corporation


The annual base salary for this position is $192,000 - $230,000.

General Description of Available Benefits for Eligible Employees of Truist Financial Corporation: All regular teammates (not temporary or contingent workers) working 20 hours or more per week are eligible for benefits, though eligibility for specific benefits may be determined by the division of Truist offering the position.
