Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Lab Technician to process canine blood specimens and support cancer-focused research in dogs. The role covers handling samples, aseptic processing, and meticulous documentation within a small team, with opportunities for both associate and Senior technician levels. Work is Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.

Qualifications

  • 0–3 years of laboratory experience for the Senior technician level or 3+ years of laboratory experience for the associate level.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience with quality control in a laboratory setting.
  • At least 1 year of experience performing aseptic technique and aseptic processing.
  • At least 1 year of experience with accurate pipetting in a lab environment.
  • Ability to work with biological specimens, specifically canine blood, following safety and handling protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail for documentation, sample tracking, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Capability to work both collaboratively within a small lab team and independently on assigned tasks.
  • Openness to varied educational backgrounds, with no specific degree requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and log incoming specimen packages from carriers.
  • Process canine blood samples using established lab protocols and aseptic techniques.
  • Perform all in-hood lab work, including sample handling and transfers.
  • Document procedures, observations, and results for each sample run.
  • Prepare materials between tasks, including labeling and setup.
  • Load samples onto plates and lab instruments per SOPs and QC guidelines.
  • Sterilize and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to meet aseptic standards.
  • Apply quality control throughout the workflow to ensure sample integrity.
  • Use pipetting techniques with precision for measurement and transfer.
  • Collaborate with a small team while also working independently on tasks.
  • Support USDA Animal Health–related work when applicable.
  • Assist with cell culturing and T-cell culture activities as needed.
  • Occasional weekend sample checks (1–2 times per month).
