Job summary

Camp Bob Waldorf, a program of Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA), seeks an Assistant Director to join the senior leadership team and partner with the VP of Camp & Retreat Operations to manage all camp and retreat programs.

The Assistant Director will oversee camper care, staff supervision, teen leadership programming, compliance, and family communication, while modeling professionalism and ensuring a safe, mission-driven environment grounded in Jewish values.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 3–5 years in camp leadership, education, or youth programming.
• Experience supervising staff and managing complex operations.
• Strong judgment and decision-making under dynamic conditions; excellent communication.
• Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to stand 8+ hours during camp retreat and summer season.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic planning and day-to-day camp operations as a senior partner.
• Step into full operational leadership when the VP is unavailable, ensuring continuity.
• Oversee camper care, staff supervision, programming, and logistics.
• Support ACA accreditation, USDA certification, and Department of Public Health compliance.
• Directly supervise seasonal leadership staff and provide coaching and feedback.
• Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of staff.
• Design and deliver leadership development and staff training sessions.
• Maintain a visible leadership presence during sessions and retreats.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, mission-aligned staff culture.
• Oversee Camper Care Program and mental health support coordination.
• Review camper applications and family communications; plan care accordingly.
• Lead response to complex behavioral, social-emotional, or mental health situations.
• Complete mandated reporting and documentation per standards.
