Job summary

Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges is seeking a seasonal camp staff member to supervise a group of children in a day camp program. You will build nurturing relationships with children and collaborate with parents/caregivers to support youth development.

As part of the camp team, you will assist with activities, lead safety practices, and uphold the YMCA core values of Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility—while helping create a positive camp experience.

Qualifications

• High school student or equivalent.
• Previous experience with children preferably in a day camp.
• Interest preferred in activities: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.

Responsibilities

• Keeps campers focused and engaged in camp activities.
• Assist Specialist during activity periods.
• Consistently greet campers with a smile and enthusiasm.
• Develop positive relationships with member families and learn why they come to our Y.
• Learn camper’s names and respond to campers' needs.
• Assist camp staff in carrying out themes, events, trips and activities.
• Encourage camper youth development progress.
• Maintain camp cleanliness.
• Plan and participate in all camp activities with staff.
• Treat campers and staff with respect and provide positive reinforcement.
