Job summary

Cadence Design Systems is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead CAE pre-processing for MSC Apex. You will design, develop, and guide advanced capabilities for model setup, entity management, materials, properties, loads, and solver deck preparation.

You will collaborate with product, architecture, QA, and engineering teams to deliver scalable pre-processing solutions, mentor engineers, and drive long-term architectural decisions ensuring robustness and performance.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience in CAE, simulation, or scientific computing.
• Deep expertise in CAE pre-processing workflows and solver setup.
• Strong C++ development for large-scale engineering, scientific applications.
• Experience with CAE products like MSC Apex, Patran, Adams, Nastran, Abaqus, ANSYS or HyperWorks.
• Experience building data models, validation frameworks, and production-quality components.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and develop advanced CAE pre-processing capabilities for engineering simulation products with robustness and scalability.
• Lead model setup workflows, entity organization, materials, properties, loads, boundary conditions, and solver preparation.
• Serve as senior technical authority for design reviews, analysis, risk assessment, and long-term architecture decisions.
• Collaborate with product management, architecture, QA, and engineering teams to translate customer workflow needs into technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers on CAE data models, solver workflows, design patterns, and best practices.
• Investigate defects in workflows, solver setup, validation failures, and performance bottlenecks to drive resolution.
• Contribute to roadmaps and clearly communicate design tradeoffs and risks to leadership.
