Job summary

Boston Dynamics is seeking a Senior Staff CAD Designer to join our Spot robot team. You will be a key technical resource, creating ruggedized hardware for demanding environments and translating early prototypes into production-ready CAD models.

You will drive mechanical packaging, deliver detailed drawings, route complex harnesses, and collaborate across engineering and suppliers to ensure manufacturability and reliability of high-performance robotics systems.

Qualifications

• AS or BS in Mechanical Design Technology, CAD/Design, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent vocational training with relevant experience.
• 7+ years of dedicated mechanical CAD design experience in robotics, consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, or industrial automation.
• Advanced, expert-level proficiency in CATIA.
• Deep knowledge of DFM/DFA for volume fabrication (injection molding, die casting, CNC).
• Experience with PLM systems (Arena preferred; Windchill/Enovia/Teamcenter).
• Bonus: ASME Y14.5 GD&T drafting practices and tolerance stack-ups.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering to iterate concepts and translate prototypes into robust CAD models.
• Develop master skeleton models, top-down assembly architectures, and high-density packaging layouts.
• Create production-ready 2D drawings compliant with ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
• Route wire harnesses and cables in constrained spaces with EE/ME teams.
• Partner with prototype shops and suppliers to optimize for tooling and assembly.
• Manage BOMs, ECOs, and revisions in the PLM system.
