Qualifications

• Minimum five years as a CAD Designer.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks; other CAD tools accepted.
• Experience with castings, machining, material selection, and ERP systems.
• Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacture, Design for Cost.
• Able to relate to people at all levels of the organization.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of computer applications.
• Knowledgeable in use of GDT.
• Preferred: Knowledge of IC engines, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Preferred: Experience using CAD-based FEA and/or related engineering software to evaluate design iterations.

Responsibilities

• Independently create design solutions for complex 3-D designs and assemblies.
• Analyzes sketches, specifications and related data to determine design size, shape, and arrangement of parts.
• Creates layouts of parts with dimensions, radii, tolerances and hole locations using standards.
• Determines if part meets safe working stress levels and adjusts design as needed.
• Drafts detailed multi-view prototype and production drawings for parts and assemblies.
• Collaborates with purchasing, suppliers, and manufacturing with minimal guidance.
• Conducts design reviews with stakeholders to determine changes.
• Reviews manufacturability with manufacturing engineering and confirms assembly.
• Revises design to accept supplier process capabilities.
• Checks drawings and models of complexity accurately.
• Manages bills of materials using engineering change orders.
• Understands and aligns with department goals and strategy.
• Maintains credibility as a developer of solutions and presents with positive morale.
