Responsibilities
- Perform the installation, labeling and testing of premise cabling, connections, patch cords, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, PDS conduit and associated hardware.
- Update cable run sheets and other documentation as required.
- Serve as the subject matter expert in reading and interpreting system installation drawings and design packages.
- Promote a safe work environment and implement safe work practices.
- Provide guidance and perform quality assurance checks for subordinate cabling personnel in the installation of LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination, and testing of fiber‑optic and copper cabling systems, as well as various types of cable tray, PDS, and Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) conduit up to 4 inches. Able to fusion splice fiber optic cable.
Qualifications
- Eligibility to obtain a government security clearance.
- Ability to travel as needed to meet project requirements.
- A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in the installation of copper and fiber‑optic cable plants.
- Highly proficient in the installation and testing of premise cabling, connections, patch cords, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, PDS conduit, and associated hardware.
- Proficient in fusion splicing, termination and outside plant installation techniques.
- Understand how to interpret work orders and prints to determine project requirements.
- Proficient in the use of splicing technology such as OTDRs, VFL, OLTS.
- Proficient in the proper handling and installation of LC, MTRJ, SC, RJ45 connector terminations and testing of fiber‑optic and copper cabling systems.
- Proficient in the installation of various types of cable tray, PDS, and Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) conduit up to 4 inches.
- Experience with access points, repeaters, data center, computer lab, Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP), direct access storage drive, mainframe, open systems and switches/routers.
- Capable of leading and instructing a team of cabling technicians and properly documenting any red‑line changes to drawing packages.
- Effective communicator in coordinating installation work with subordinates and office personnel.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Technician, BICSI Installer 2, Copper (INSTC) and BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber (INSTF) certification are highly desirable.
