Job summary

Barnes Group in Warren, MI is seeking an experienced Senior Purchaser to manage ERP-driven purchasing requirements and lead strategic Make vs. Buy analyses with manufacturing and engineering.

You will negotiate LTAs, drive PPV and cost-saving initiatives while ensuring supplier performance aligns with the internal build plan. Ideal candidates have 7+ years in manufacturing purchasing, strong ERP experience, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
• High attention to detail and quality in all aspects of work.
• Previous experience with ERP systems.
• Ability to react quickly to schedule changes and re-prioritize parts at vendors.
• Investigate ways to reduce overall costs by identifying potential new suppliers and collaborating with internal stakeholders.
• Strong time management and ability to coordinate multiple projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with internal/external stakeholders.
• Able to work in a team environment as well as independently.
• Desirable: experience with castings, forgings, and aerospace manufacturing.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
• Willingness to travel up to 20%.

Responsibilities

• Manage all purchasing requirements and exception messages driven by ERP.
• Lead Make vs. Buy analyses with manufacturing & engineering.
• Negotiate and administer Long Term Agreements with central commodity team.
• Drive PPV, cost avoidance and cost savings initiatives.
• Request quotes from suppliers based on capacity and AVN approvals.
• Obtain Quality approvals before transmitting POs to suppliers.
• Manage POs to ensure date accuracy and data flow to supplier scorecards.
• Manage supplier performance to meet internal build plan requirements.
• Identify and mitigate risk by tracking supplier deliveries.
• Mentor junior buyers and promote continuous improvement and negotiation excellence.
