Job summary

George Mason University seeks a Senior Buyer to lead complex public procurements from planning to award. You will negotiate high-value contracts, guide departments on strategy, and ensure compliance with Virginia policies while supporting operational needs.

The role emphasizes independent judgment, supplier relations, and collaboration with SWaM vendors in a fast-paced university environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum seven years of full-time professional procurement experience in public-sector or related field with responsibility for independently managing or leading procurements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, or related field; substitutions possible for up to four years of experience.
• Professional procurement certifications (CPPB, CPPO, CPSM, etc.) preferred.
• Experience running complex procurements from planning through award and contract administration highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, negotiate, and administer complex procurement contracts and high-value purchasing actions.
• Lead RFPs, IFBs, and other solicitations from planning through award and evaluation.
• Analyze bids, support evaluation committees, and draft award documentation.
• Advise departments on procurement strategy to balance cost, quality, and risk.
• Maintain procurement files and ensure compliance with laws and policies.
• Collaborate with university stakeholders and SWaM vendors to optimize sourcing.
