Job Summary:
Reporting to the Purchasing Supervisor, the Senior Buyer is responsible for managing vendor activity, leading negotiations, and analyzing pricing and sales trends to determine optimal purchase timing and quantities. This individual will also be expected to identify alternate vendors or materials that meet company and customer standards, while driving cost savings, vendor performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
1. Procurement:
- Prepare and manage RFPs/RFQs, purchase agreements, and statements of work
- Evaluate vendor quotations and proposals to recommend sourcing decisions
- Maintain and ensure compliance with the Approved Vendor List
- Manage supplier relationships and monitor vendor KPIs monthly
- Work with vendors and internal teams to implement cost savings and efficiency programs
- Monitor open orders to ensure delivery deadlines are met and expedite when necessary
- Oversee purchasing activities across the department
2. Electronics Purchasing:
- Source and procure electronic components
- Evaluate and qualify alternate suppliers for electronic parts to ensure supply chain continuity
- Track and manage long lead-time electronic items and proactively mitigate supply constraints
- Ensure all electronics purchases meet internal specs and external certifications or regulatory requirements
- Maintain awareness of electronic component lifecycle and manage end-of-life (EOL) transitions
- Analyze material demand and prepare purchase orders per company policy
- Research and qualify alternate vendors and products based on quality or certification needs
- Participate in the quoting process during the design stages of new products
- Lead process improvements and manage material obsolescence
- Collaborate with technical and management staff to resolve material, delivery, or spec issues
4. System & Data Accuracy:
- Ensure system accuracy for item data, vendor pricing, lead times, and delivery dates
- Prepare and submit purchase orders and necessary documentation to suppliers
- Train and assist new Buyers in purchasing policies and procedures
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; BS preferred
- 5+ years of purchasing/procurement experience or 7+ years of directly related experience
- Experience in sourcing and procuring electronic components is required.
- Experience in sourcing components for government contracts and aerospace assemblies strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Basic math and analytical skills required
- Must be able to sit for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
