Job summary

Rue Gilt Groupe is seeking a Senior Buyer, Accessories in New York/Boston with a hybrid schedule requiring 2 days in the office. You will curate exceptional accessory assortments, build strong brand partnerships, and drive growth through strategic merchandising and data-driven decisions.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in retail or e-commerce, including direct buying, trend analysis, and cross-functional collaboration, to lead profitable, differentiated product offerings.

  • 8 years’ experience in retail or e-commerce with a minimum of 4 years direct buying experience.

  • Drive sales, meet goals and deliver margin improvements.
  • Identify potential brand and product business opportunities.
  • Build direct relationships with key suppliers, vetting prospects, negotiating contracts, terms & conditions.
  • Proven analytical thinking around trends, sales, inventory and turn.
  • Work cross functionally with Marketing, AP, Programming, Planning and Production teams to ensure products are properly merchandised and all pertinent information is included to maximize sale potential.

Location: New York, NY or Boston, MA; Hybrid (2 days in the office required)

Approved Salary Range: $105,000-$125,000

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive sales, meet goals and deliver margin improvements

Experience And Background Needed
Years Of Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while effectively managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Proven experience managing a diverse vendor portfolio across multiple product categories while building and maintaining strong strategic partnerships.
  • Experienced in building and optimizing product assortments by analyzing market trends, historical sales performance to drive business growth.
  • Proficient in identifying emerging trends, recognizing at-risk categories through data analysis, enabling proactive assortment adjustments and strategic decision-making.
  • Agile and results-oriented, with the ability to quickly pivot merchandising strategies to capitalize on market opportunities, mitigate risk, and maximize sales and profitability.
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing talent, mentoring team members, and fostering high-performing teams that deliver strong business results.
  • Motivated by working in a fast-paced collaborative environment
  • 8 years’ experience in retail or e-commerce with a minimum of 4 years direct buying experience
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree desired, but not required
Technical Skills
  • Product obsessed with experience in leveraging market trends, data, and a critical eye to anticipate customer needs (combining both the “science” and “art” of merchandising)
