Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is seeking a Buyer to procure materials, supplies, equipment, and services essential to our shipyard operations in a professional office setting.

The role requires 3–5 years of buying experience, a high school diploma or GED, and proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook. You will analyze price proposals, liaise with vendors, maintain records, issue quotes, and ensure timely deliveries while upholding company policies.

• Ability to read and interpret supplier documents and data.

Responsibilities

• Analyze price proposals to determine reasonable quotes.
• Liaise between vendors and departments to resolve procurement issues.
• Maintain accurate vendor performance records.
• Issue RFQs/proposals and select sources per policy.
• Ensure materials meet specified conditions and standards.
• Communicate with Purchasing Manager and Director; perform other duties as assigned.

However, no accommodation will be made which may pose serious health or safety risks to the employee or others or which imposes undue hardship on Eastern Shipbuilding.POSITION SUMMARYResponsible for the procurement of a wide variety of materials, supplies, equipment, and services for Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.Analyze price proposals and other data and information to determine reasonable price quotes.Acts as a liaison between vendors/suppliers and involved departments to resolve procurement related problems.Maintain accurate records of vendor/supplier performances.Issue requests for quotes/proposals and select the best source consistent with cost, quality, and delivery in accordance with Company policies and procedures.Ensure that the materials, supplies, and equipment, etc. purchased on behalf of the shipyard meet specified conditions and acceptable standards.Respond consistently with a high degree of initiative to resolve issues or complex problems that may arise.Consult with vendors/suppliers concerning over-shipments, delivery shortages, changes in quantity, and delivery dates, etc. Communicate with the Purchasing Manager and Director.Perform other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESDirectly and/or indirectly supervise employees assigned to the Purchasing Dept. Reports issues or concerns to the Purchasing Director and Purchasing Manager. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out- of-area and overnight travel may be required.REQUIREMENTSEducation/Experience : High school diploma or GED equivalent plus three to five years’ experience as a Buyer. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Skills : Intermediate level Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Express. Ability to read and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, professional documents, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, vendors, and management. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
