Job summary

Venteon is seeking a seasoned Senior Buyer in Michigan to drive strategic sourcing for key manufacturing commodities. You will lead RFQ processes, negotiate contracts, and optimize total cost of ownership while ensuring supply continuity and quality.

This role demands cross-functional collaboration with engineering and operations. Ideal candidates have 5–7 years of manufacturing sourcing experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or related field required.
• Minimum 5–7 years of purchasing/procurement/strategic sourcing in manufacturing.
• Experience sourcing forgings or engineered metal components preferred.
• Strong RFQ, negotiation, and contract management experience.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specs.
• Knowledge of total cost of ownership and cost structures.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives for assigned commodities.
• Lead RFIs and RFQs, supplier evaluations, and sourcing events.
• Analyze supplier quotations and total cost of ownership.
• Negotiate pricing and long-term supply agreements.
• Maintain supplier relationships and monitor performance.
• Lead supplier reviews and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support new product launches with PPAP readiness and milestones.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Finance, and PM teams.
• Identify supplier risks and mitigation strategies.
• Track procurement activities and savings.

Minimum 5–7 Years of Purchasing, Procurement, or Strategic Sourcing Experience within Manufacturing

Venteon is currently seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to fill an opening with a leading manufacturing company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, cost reduction, and supplier management, preferably with experience purchasing forgings, engineered metal components, or related manufacturing commodities.

Requirements of the Senior Buyer

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field
• Minimum 5–7 years of purchasing, procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain experience within a manufacturing environment
• Experience sourcing forgings, metal components, or other engineered manufacturing commodities preferred
• Strong experience managing RFQ processes, supplier negotiations, and contract management activities
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturing requirements
• Experience analyzing supplier quotations, cost structures, and total cost of ownership
• Strong understanding of strategic sourcing, supplier performance management, and supply chain risk mitigation
• Experience implementing cost reduction initiatives through supplier negotiations, benchmarking, and value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE)
• Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, and new product launch processes preferred
• Strong analytical, organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple sourcing projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPM, or APICS preferred
• Ability to travel up to 10%

Responsibilities of the Senior Buyer

• Develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives for assigned commodities to achieve cost, quality, delivery, and supply continuity objectives
• Lead RFI/RFQ activities, supplier evaluations, competitive sourcing events, and sourcing recommendations
• Analyze supplier quotations, manufacturing costs, and total cost of ownership to identify competitive sourcing solutions
• Negotiate supplier pricing, commercial terms, contracts, and long-term supply agreements
• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships while monitoring quality, delivery, cost, and overall supplier performance
• Lead supplier performance reviews and support corrective action and continuous improvement initiatives
• Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities through strategic sourcing, VA/VE activities, benchmarking, resourcing, and productivity improvements
• Support new product and program launches by coordinating sourcing activities, supplier readiness, PPAP requirements, and project milestones
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Finance, and Program Management teams to resolve supplier issues and support organizational objectives
• Evaluate and mitigate supplier risks involving capacity, financial stability, quality, and continuity of supply
• Track and report procurement activities, sourcing project savings, supplier performance metrics, and cost reduction initiatives
• Identify opportunities to optimize procurement processes, reduce inventory costs, and improve overall supply chain efficiency
• Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies, procedures, and contractual requirements
