Role Description

The Senior Business Development Manager at WEX International will drive strategic business development initiatives, focusing on the travel sector, to achieve growth and market expansion, particularly within the DACH region and across EMEA. This role involves identifying and securing new business opportunities, building strong client relationships, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver tailored B2B payment solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commercial acumen, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and a proven track record in sales and business development within the travel and/or financial services/payments sectors.

How you’ll make an impact

  1. Identify and pursue sales opportunities within the travel industry across the EMEA region, with an initial focus on the DACH region.
  2. Develop and execute business development plans to meet regional targets and contribute to overall revenue growth.
  3. Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline through proactive lead generation and networking.
  4. Manage the entire sales cycle, from initial prospect contact to deal closure and follow-up activities.
  5. Develop and present "Deal Sheets" in collaboration with Commercial Finance to secure management approval for new business opportunities.
  6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer plans within Salesforce.
  7. Conduct regular client meetings, including travel to client sites across EMEA, to establish and maintain strong relationships.
  8. Act as a trusted advisor to clients on B2B payment solutions, driving growth in spend and revenue.
  9. Collaborate with product, marketing, and operational teams to develop and deliver tailored client solutions.
  10. Participate in industry events to network and promote WEX International's thought leadership in the travel payments market.
  11. Accurately monitor, analyze, and forecast revenue streams, ensuring alignment with budget and KPIs.
  12. Expand WEX’s Travel payment solutions ecosystem through strategic partnerships.
  13. Proactively keep management informed of all customer plans, milestones, and issues.

Experience You’ll Bring

  1. Ability to develop and execute strategic business development plans.
  2. Strong sales and negotiation skills, with a proven track record of exceeding targets.
  3. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  4. Deep understanding of the travel industry and B2B payment solutions.
  5. Strong networking and relationship-building skills.
  6. Goal-oriented with a strong focus on achieving business objectives.
  7. Ability to lead by example and contribute to team success.
  8. High level of enthusiasm and initiative.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales or business development within the travel, financial services, or payments industry.
  3. Proven track record of driving business growth in the EMEA region.
  4. Demonstrated ability to manage the entire sales cycle and exceed sales targets.
  5. Fluency in English and German is essential; additional European languages are a plus.
  6. Ability to undertake regular corporate travel across Europe.
  7. Strong understanding of CRM systems, preferably Salesforce.
  8. Experience leading sales teams is a plus.
  9. Travel service background is ideal.
