Job summary

CAI is seeking a Business Analyst - Requirements Engineering for a full-time, long-term contract in Trenton, NJ. This hybrid role (3 days onsite) focuses on leading HR process analysis and delivering build-ready workflow and form specifications for the NJ Department of Children and Families HR modernization initiative.

The candidate will facilitate SME sessions, manage traceability, and ensure specifications are machine-ingestible and version-controlled. State government experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 5+ years of experience in business analysis or requirements engineering.
• Experience in HR process analysis and workflow/form specification.
• Experience facilitating SME sessions.
• Able to break down business requirements into build-ready specs with acceptance criteria and traceability.
• Experience maintaining a requirements traceability matrix across large sets.

Responsibilities

• Analyze current-state HR processes, including recruitment, position management, onboarding, personnel actions, and compliance workflows.
• Document future-state workflows, identify pain points, and opportunities for automation.
• Validate process models with HR owners and the Application Manager before specifications.
• Plan and lead SME sessions to capture and refine requirements; prepare agendas and questions.
• Write build-ready specifications for workflows, forms, field validations, routing, approvals, and notifications; define acceptance criteria.
• Maintain requirements traceability across source to test; enforce unique IDs and report coverage.
