Job summary

Radio Free Asia seeks a Senior Editor, Output (Burmese Desk) in Washington, DC. The role gates all stories for accuracy, clarity, and platform-ready formatting, requiring high accountability and real-time management of the Burmese desk’s output.

You will edit, sequence, and publish across web, social, shortwave, and video; uphold style guides; monitor analytics; and coordinate with A/V teams. Hybrid schedule with in-office and remote days.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 7+ years in journalism, with significant editing/leadership experience.
• Strong Burmese editing ability and newsroom leadership under deadlines.
• Deep knowledge of the desk's regional coverage and editorial judgment.
• Familiarity with CMS platforms and real-time analytics.
• Experience with multi‑platform publishing (web, social, video, audio).

Responsibilities

• Review and edit all stories before publication across platforms.
• Manage the desk's publishing queue and timing.
• Maintain editorial standards and style guidelines.
• Escalate standards, safety, and legal concerns as needed.
• Ensure accurate metadata, captions, and cross-links in CMS.
• Provide end-of-shift handoff notes for the desk counterpart.
• Collaborate with Senior Producer on A/V output and quality controls.
• Contribute to training and standards development for the team.
• Cover senior editorial duties during absences or surges.
• Monitor real-time analytics and adjust story sequencing accordingly.
• Rewrite or test alternative headlines to boost CTR.
• Optimize short-form video titles and thumbnails based on data.
