Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Buildings HVAC Lead to deliver major projects in Los Angeles (and Austin). You will lead HVAC design, coordinate across multidisciplinary teams, and interface with clients on complex rail/infrastructure programs. The role is hybrid, with office collaboration and travel as required.

The salary range for LA is $169,000–$207,000 per year. You should have 15+ years in Building HVAC Systems, a PE license in CA or TX (or reciprocity), and proven experience in vertical

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in Building HVAC Systems engineering.
• BSc / MSc in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in California and/or Texas, or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months.
• Proven experience delivering vertical infrastructure (depots, rail stations, public-use facilities).
• Demonstrated experience in design management and multidisciplinary coordination, particularly across MEP and Buildings Systems interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage the delivery of HVAC building systems.
• Provide technical leadership and integration across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring alignment between architecture, structures, rail systems, and utilities.
• Act as a key interface within the client-embedded delivery team, supporting real-time decision-making and collaboration.
• Support utility coordination, third-party interfaces, and permitting activities within complex urban right-of-way environments.
• Ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, and compliant station environments, aligned with industry standards and transit design best practice.
• Support safety assurance, certification, and commissioning activities for station systems and infrastructure.
• Contribute to the delivery of high-quality, passenger-focused station environments, supporting accessibility, usability, and urban integration.
• Support design management functions including scope, schedule, risk, quality, and value engineering.
• Mentor and develop engineers, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment.
