JOHN AKRIDGE CO LLC is seeking an Assistant Director of Building Services & Senior Chief Engineer in Washington, DC. You will lead advanced HVAC maintenance, diagnose complex issues, and oversee BAS/BMS automation to ensure tenant comfort and energy efficiency.

The role requires a minimum of 10+ years in commercial HVAC, a DC 3rd license, and strong collaboration with property teams and contractors. A highly independent engineer will thrive in this leadership position with safety and compliance

Qualifications

Minimum 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in commercial HVAC maintenance.
DC 3rd license is required.
Experience maintaining HVAC systems in large-scale facilities.
Experience with VRF systems.
Ability to read mechanical drawings and control sequences.
Strong troubleshooting and preventive maintenance skills.
Experience mentoring junior technicians preferred.

Responsibilities

Operate, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC systems and equipment.
Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on AHUs, RTUs, chillers, boilers, pumps, and BAS/BMS.
Monitor BAS/BMS and optimize energy performance.
Coordinate with property management, tenants, contractors, and vendors.
Provide technical guidance to junior maintenance staff.
Maintain preventive maintenance records and service documentation.
Assist with contractor oversight and safety compliance.
Support capital improvement projects and building-system upgrades.
