King County's Department of Local Services, Permitting Division, is seeking a Building Official (Engineer IV) to lead plan review and inspections for buildings to ensure code compliance across structural, life safety, energy, and accessibility requirements.

The role combines technical leadership, staff supervision, and customer-focused service, requiring strong communication, collaboration across teams, and the ability to resolve complex permitting challenges.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising field-based building inspection staff with technical leadership to plan review staff.
• Extensive experience interpreting and applying building codes in complex real-world situations.
• Broad knowledge of permitting processes including plan review, inspections, discretionary determinations, and regulatory coordination.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and build strong cross-team relationships.

Responsabilités

• Supervise and support building inspection staff, providing day-to-day guidance and performance oversight.
• Provide technical leadership to plan review staff for consistent code interpretation.
• Interpret and apply building codes in complex, real-world scenarios.
