King County is seeking a Building Official (Engineer IV) to lead and supervise plan review and field inspections, ensuring compliance with structural, life-safety, energy, and other codes. You will coordinate across engineering, fire, planning, and customer service teams to streamline workflows and deliver results.

Formación

• Education or experience in building construction, architecture, engineering, construction management, or related field.
• Experience supervising field-based building inspection staff and providing technical leadership for plan review.
• Extensive experience interpreting and applying building codes in complex situations.
• Broad knowledge of permitting processes including plan review, inspections, and regulatory coordination.

Responsabilidades

• Supervise and support building inspection staff with day-to-day guidance and performance oversight.
• Provide technical leadership to plan review staff for consistent code interpretation.
• Interpret and apply building codes in complex, real-world scenarios, including ambiguous cases.
• Resolve challenging permitting and construction issues by applying codes safely and compliantly.
• Respond to inquiries about code interpretation and permitting requirements with clarity.
• Conduct site visits and field determinations for complex projects and unsafe conditions.
• Collaborate across departments to streamline processes and resolve multi-discipline issues.
• Develop policies, SOPs, and training materials to ensure consistent code implementation.
• Represent King County in interagency and regional forums and partnerships.
• Support emergency and disaster response activities as needed.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and improve permitting predictability for customers and staff.
